The Aphobos Coach Development Programme, led by acclaimed CrossFit and weightlifting expert Gemma Bailey, is designed to elevate aspiring coaches through a comprehensive curriculum. Participants will gain invaluable skills in professional coaching standards, effective time management, and member engagement, ensuring they are well-equipped to inspire and lead as expert CrossFit coaches.

I started at Aphobos as a member and took part in the coaches development programme (CDP) before undertaking the CFL1 course. The CDP gave me a head start on understanding what would be required of me as a coach.

What the CPD gave me was a far more in-depth knowledge, of the seeing and correcting in particular, to help me become a better coach. What will you learn?

  • Core teaching principles involve mastering the fundamentals of CrossFit coaching. This includes limiting the scope for clarity in instruction, ensuring that guidance is clear and focused. Additionally, continuously seeking knowledge and asking questions when uncertain is essential for effective coaching.

  • Learn about appropriate scaling options for various movements and how to ensure safety and effectiveness for different fitness levels.

  • Be the driving force behind the community - develop leadership skills to inspire, lead, and boost morale among gym members.

  • Learn to manage class time effectively and understand the importance of punctuality by being on the gym floor 15 minutes before and after each session.

  • Understand how to effectively communicate the daily workout breakdown, including body prep, strength and skill, conditioning, class time, participant names, and scores.

  • Gain proficiency with the Octiv App for accurate member check-ins and tracking.

  • Get trained on our reporting system to handle accidents or incidents professionally and efficiently.

  • Participate in weekly programming meetings to understand class expectations and workout intentions.

  • Learn about keeping the gym clean and organised for the next class, and how to properly store equipment and maintain a safe environment.
